REMEMBRANCES...

"One night when I was a twenty-something, skinny-tie wearing new-wave musician, I played a gig on a sweltering night at The Troubador, a nightclub in West Hollywood. Carl was there as was every friend I had who was willing and able to come see my band and help us pack the club. I went to the bathroom before the set and got in line behind an old guy in a sports jacket, wondering what an old guy like that was doing at The Troubador on a Saturday night. When he flushed the urinal and turned around I realized it was my Dad. He was my Old Guy! Both a little stunned, we stood there staring at each other. I had no idea he would be there. He lived a four-hour drive away from West Hollywood. It was the first time I ever reached over and hugged him. Dad died from cancer within two years."
